The man at the Pool of Bethesda had been sick for thirty-eight years. That is nearly four decades of waiting, hoping, and watching others receive what he longed for!! He laid in a place associated with miracles, yet time kept passing while his condition remained the same. His story confronts us with a powerful question about time: What do we do while we wait?

Jesus arrives not when the waters are stirred, but when time seems wasted. He asks a question that reaches deeper than physical healing: “Do you want to be made well?” In other words, are you ready to move forward, or have you grown comfortable explaining why you cannot? The man responds with reasons of no one helps him, someone always gets there first. His answer reveals how long seasons can shape our mindset. Prolonged delay can train us to expect disappointment,
to normalize limitation, and to surrender our
time to circumstances instead of faith.
Yet Jesus interrupts thirty-eight years in one moment. With one command......“Rise, take up your bed, and walk” and in that moment Jesus redeems the time. What had been years of stagnation becomes a testimony of sudden transformation. The bed that once carried him now becomes proof that his past no longer defines his future. Redeeming the time does not always mean going back and fixing what was lost. Sometimes it means allowing Jesus to step into now and do what years could not do by bringing forward what was supposed to happen years ago. It means responding when He speaks, even if we’ve been waiting longer than we expected.
This passage teaches us that:
Time spent waiting is not wasted when surrendered to Christ.
Long delays do not cancel divine purpose.
The man at the pool didn't receive a touch from Jesus.
He received a word, and it was up to him to believe it and move on it.
When Jesus spoke to him, things still looked the same.
But even when things looked the same, God was looking for him to act in faith.
My questions to you are what mat has kept you bound? What excuses have you made that has kept you bound to "the mat?" What has God already spoken and you need to make a move? Are you ready to be made well and whole? Are you ready for your situation to be made well and whole?
Don't look at the circumstances. Look at what God has said and what He is speaking. Redeeming of time is often a window of opportunity and this passage proves that it can come at the most unfavorable time. However, we must seize the moment and not miss that window of opportunity. Unbelief, doubt, disobedience, and excuses can cause us to miss out if not careful. Had the man at the pool kept his focus on excuses and not moved when God spoke, he would have missed the moment of opportunity called the redeeming of the time. It is time for you to make a move!
