Let Go of the Old!! Receive the New!!

Earlier this week, my daughter's friend showed me her Amazon college wish list, and I noticed she wanted a pair of Beats headphones. That reminded me of a brand-new pair I had purchased for $199 for my mom. She didn’t like the fit, so I offered them to the young lady, mentioning that they were actually better for her especially while driving and of better quality, instead of the bulkier ones on her list. She smiled, thanked me, and gladly accepted the gift, especially since she was using a borrowed pair from her dad.
But that same day, I noticed something strange, she kept using the old, borrowed headphones. I asked her, “Why are you still using the old headphones, when God has blessed you with a brand-new pair?” In that moment, the Holy Spirit had convicted her. She hadn’t truly recognized or embraced the new gift. She had been stuck in what was familiar, comfortable, and less than. In that moment, she said to me "OMG you clocked tea!" lol I guess that meant what I said was good! lol
And that’s how many of us are with what God is doing in our lives.
We cling to the old because:
It’s comfortable.
It’s familiar.
We don’t fully believe the new thing is ours.
We don’t know how to receive it.
But Isaiah 43:19 reminds us:
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”
Sometimes the problem isn’t that God isn’t doing something new, it’s that we haven’t perceived it. We’re still using the “borrowed” and broken things of our past, unaware that something better has already been placed in our hands.
Let this be a reminder: Don’t get so used to the old that you miss the blessing of the new. God has more for you, but you have to be willing and ready to receive it.
